I Think I Like Greenland :]

So -- how to describe my time here in Greenland so far? I can hardly think of words to explain it. To say the least -- its definitely the experience of a lifetime!

... first of all -- the land itself is absolutely gorgeous! I've seen pictures over the years, with my brother, cousins, and of course, Grandparents coming here. But those are nothing to what it actually is in real life. Flying  in was pretty much just beautiful! As we broke through the clouds, snow-covered mountains surrounded by clouds, ice burgs floating in the ocean, and of course, the city nestled among it all came into view.

... and the food -- Mmmm I think I could survive on this stuff :) It is delish. I think my favorite so far has been the fish soup we had one day, which consisted of crab, clam, muscle, squid, whale skin, and shrimp. Yum! But the Arctic Char, salmon, and cod have all been good. We've had a lot of Danish dishes... I guess the people from Denmark have had a huge influence on the Greenlandic culture -- so in other words, I'm in love with Danish foods =)

... and then there are the people. They are just amazing. They have known so much pain, so much hurt, so many hard times in their lives... but yet -- they are full of smiles, hugs, and kind words. It amazes me. It is interesting trying to communicate with them :) some speak English, other very limited English, and the rest no English at all...

... they have some vary interesting things in their culture. One experience was what they call a "coffee meek." This is an open house event that families put on for an celebration (birthday, anniversary, birth etc). You go, eat lots of food, talk, and they hand out gifts. That was really neat going to one.

... so what do we do with our time? Well -- somehow I got put on for being the video woman for all the sessions. So I control the cameras by computer. Its fun -- but can get long :) I'm training the miss Amy to help with changing cameras and such stuff. And we do lots of walking. Some days we figure up to four hours! Shopping. Touring. Pictures. Pictures. And more pictures :]

So -- it has been fun! I can't believe we are only halfway through our first week! It seems like we've been here forever!

... and now for the pictures ...
